Meet Gracie and Luna

Gracie and Luna were rescued in May 2024, and found their forever home a few months later. We got this update from their adopters, Josie and Jason Stein. It was so sweet that we decided to share it here:

“We met Gracie and Luna on our first visit to Oscar’s Place, along with many other donkeys. We went back and forth between the pastures, but we both kept getting drawn back to Gracie and Luna! It felt like they picked us. Ron told us they were ‘Velco donkeys,’ and he was not kidding—which is exactly what we wanted. We said we would discuss it, but on the way home that day, we just knew that we would adopt them.

It took about 7 days for Gracie and Luna to settle into their new home. There was a rainstorm shortly after they arrived, and I spent most of the night trying to get them to come under the shelter because I was so worried about them being in the rain. First-time parent stuff!

The girls are both so curious. They stare at the horses across the pasture. They look forward to their weekend walks. Gracie walks like a dream, and ‘Luna Baguna’ likes to stop and check out everything. They look forward to their nightly brushes while listening to Adele. Luna loves to play with toys—she has several [fake] chickens and balls. Gracie loves to kick the ball.

We can see each other through the windows when we are in the house. They bray repeatedly when they haven’t seen us for a bit. We have a storage container that we were loading totes into, and they are so funny that they just walk right in. Gracie and Luna have without a doubt changed our lives! They are so special and highly intelligent. We hope to expand our space and adopt more.” — Josie and Jason Stein (@happy_ass_ranch)

Gracie and Luna’s adoption story is a reminder that when we rescue donkeys, they change our lives, too. They need us, but we need them just as much. Learn more about adopting a donkey from Oscar’s Place.
