Meet Jiminy Cricket
If you subscribe to our email newsletter, you already know that Jiminy Cricket, one of everyone’s favorite mini donkeys at Oscar’s Place, has found his new forever home.
Jiminy Cricket was rescued from an auction in Texas in March 2023. What he lacked in size, he made up for in heart. From the start, he was super friendly, sweet, and confident. He likely came from a family who loved him, but could no longer care for him.
He found the perfect family who wanted to adopt him. They visited several times to make sure it was a good fit, and saying goodbye to him was bittersweet. Here’s an update we got from Jiminy’s new owners about how he’s doing in his new home:
“I met Jiminy Cricket at Oscar’s Place and fell in love with him. He is a small mini donkey with a sweet temperament. He loves attention and having his ears rubbed and his back scratched. He arrived and was introduced to our other mini donkey, Harry.
They immediately started kicking and threatening each other, but not in a really bad way. So we lived in hope that they would adjust. Jiminy Cricket explored the paddock and kept his distance from Harry and us. Over the course of the first few weeks, he began to realize that Harry wasn’t so bad, and that people meant brushing and ear rubs and treats.
Every afternoon, the two donkeys get to come out of the paddock and wander down to the lake. It makes a change for them and if their time out is delayed by even a short time, Harry starts braying. We have yet to hear Cricket make a sound.
It’s been hot the last week, so both donkeys got hosed off a couple of times. They didn’t like the water much, but raced about once they were wet and cooler. Of course, they rolled in the dust and became filthy, but that was what I expected.
We really love Cricket and Harry is very glad he is here, but won’t admit it yet. Thank you for trusting us with him.” — Jiminy Cricket’s adopters
