Meet Babe

Babe’s Story

Babe’s mom, Sylvia, was rescued from an auction in Texas back in July 2023. She was saved along with her sister, Beatrice, and both girls were pregnant. They were also very sick and malnourished, fighting wounds, nasal discharge, and potential lung infections. We raced to get them healthy and comfortable around humans before their babies arrived.

Sylvia had Babe first. But there were issues from the start. Babe wouldn’t nurse, and then Sylvia lay down and wouldn’t get back up. We rushed them both to UC Davis, where they spent a week. Sylvia had post-foaling laminitis, a painful condition. We pulled out all the stops for her, and she turned the corner. But sadly, Sylvia never fully recovered, and her pain became too much to bear. We said goodbye to her in August 2025.

Babe spends her days with her aunt Beatrice and cousin Kate. The three of them are healing together. After Sylvia passed away, we really spoiled Babe with love and attention. She soaked it all up and is now doing really well. She loves hanging out with her favorite people.

Kate was born second—a beautiful, healthy girl. But Kate’s mom, Beatrice, struggles with her health, particularly in her feet. Because of this, she will always live at Oscar’s Place, where she can receive special care. Since we don’t split up bonded families, Kate and Babe will also be here for as long as Beatrice is.

Babe is absolutely gorgeous… and she’s going to be massive (her mom was a mammoth donkey). While she had a very rough start to life, you can help ensure that every day she has left is filled with loving care.
