S1:E17 DJ's Tables Have Turned
One of the most impactful ways you can make a difference is by sponsoring a donkey at Oscar’s Place. Meet our permanent resident donkeys and become a monthly donor!
Ron and Kenneth head out to pick up two donkeys from Cheryl, a lovely owner, whose health issues necessitate relinquishing her donkeys.
Cheryl tells fun tales of hijinx with her donkeys Dusty and Pollyanna, with Dusty being the ringleader. While Dusty loads on the trailer just fine, Pollyanna gives everyone a brief scare when Cheryl drops the rope. After a three-hour trip back to Oscar’s Place, the donkeys settle right in, eating right away and showing no signs of stress. During their intake exam, Dr. Kerry thinks Pollyanna is in rough shape: from cataracts in her eye and limited vision to bony hips, she’s old and likely a Cushing’s Disease candidate.
The team takes blood on Pollyanna and Dusty, who they’re now calling DJ, given another resident already named Dusty. After a lengthy stay in quarantine, they seamlessly transition to the senior pasture. Dr. Kerry returns with a bombshell: it’s not Pollyanna who has Cushing’s Disease... it’s actually DJ.
The silver lining on this early detection is the team can get a jump on managing the symptoms of this incurable disease. Ron is shocked and delighted when DJ takes a carrot stuffed with medicine on his first attempt – something especially surprising given his skittish behavior at Oscar’s Place thus far.
Donkey King airs every Saturday morning on ABC stations nationwide as part of the Weekend Adventure educational and informational programming block. Check out the episode release schedule to stay up to date.
