Donkey Feeding Basics

Some Basic Guidelines

  • Donkeys process sugar differently than horses and too much sugar leads to obesity, which leads to health complications.

  • Sugar can be found in fresh grass, most green hay, carrots, apples, cookie treats

  • Donkeys are desert animals.  Thousands of years ago donkey evolved from the desert while horses evolved from pastures, as such they have different feed requirements and their body’s process food differently.
