Roxanne’s Story
Roxanne is our first orphan baby at Oscar’s Place. She was born in July 2025 to her mom Frances, who was rescued from an auction already pregnant. Frances had been bred back-to-back, which took a toll on her body. On top of that, she was very malnourished.
From the start, neither mom nor baby was as strong as we had hoped, so we sent them to UC Davis. They discovered a large internal mass in Frances, and the birth put extreme stress on it. It ruptured, and despite everyone’s best efforts, we lost her just a few days later.
We showered baby Roxanne with love and care, including feeding her from a bottle. We are thrilled to share that today, she is thriving. Roxanne has tons of friends, both donkey and human. She is as sweet as can be, as close to a Labrador as any donkey will ever be. She has just a little bit of sass, too, and we call her our resident diva.
Roxanne has tons of friends, both donkey and human. Our staff and volunteers completely adore her, and it’s mutual. Roxanne loves following everyone around. Recently, team member Josh told Ron, “All the other staff members have a donkey here as a permanent resident… and I choose Roxanne.” He didn’t ask… he chose Roxanne to be here forever. And Ron was supportive.
So now, Roxanne is one of our newest donkeys looking for sponsors. She has a beautiful life ahead. We will do everything in our power to give her the life that her mother deserved. Will you shower this sweet girl with love and care?
